She fell in love with a Tapestry in the Hermitage in Amsterdam and this encounter sparked great curiosity to understand the mystical beauty of crossing threads that she is on a continuous journey of deepening and embodying the craft of weaving…
Ruchama’s love for textiles was ignited by my grandmother Omi Hoed, who taught me, as a young girl, how to enjoy working with needle and thread. Fortunately my life-journey has taken me from studying Theatre, Dance, Literature & Humanistics to studying Hat-making (Millinery) for 7 years with a variety of wonderful teachers such as Marga van den Bos, Marianne Jongkind, Maria Driessen, madame Marie O’Regan en Jane Smith & culminating in visual art Textiles-studies at Goldsmiths College in London, where of which all my previous paths blended into one and I greatfully graduated as Bachelor of Visual Art -Textiles in 2008.

Weaving along my thread of inspiration I have explored free hand weaving in my own workshop and in 2014 I had the privilege of deepening my understanding of weaving on a loom by hands-on studying with Lucia Nesi Giardina in Lucca, a small city known for its silk and weaving traditions in Northern Tuscany (IT). In 2015 I have participated in a masterclass with Nely Kerbert, one of Holland’s most inspiring weaving-elders in Friesland. And now I am the proud owner and explorer of my own castle loom in which the exploration of movement, embodiment, meditation and alchemy of thread continues …

I have performed and exhibitited my work in both group and solo-shows in Amsterdam, Utrecht, Leiden, Haarlem, Gouda (NL), London, Folkestone (UK), Madrid, Barcelona (ES), Foulain (FR) and Tuscany (IT). In July 2016 I will participate at the ‘Gesture conference’ at the Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris, as one of the artists in residence.

Individuals and Companies request me to make site-specific installations and as ever I continue to develop and explore my creative possibilities for both me and ‘the world’ to Enjoy. I have created site-specific installations for interiors of commissioners and companies and it is clear to me that exhibiting my work allows me to find Admirers, who order and buy my work to support me making more of what I love…

Currently me & my castle loom are residing in the Tuscan Hills, where we continue studying weaving from both a philosophical, artistic and craft point of view.
